Sports Massage
Sports Massage is used to prepare for or recover from performance or training; and to treat or prevent sporting conditions or injuries. It can include deep tissue treatment and facilitated stretching as well as other more advanced techniques.
Sports Massage can be performed pre-event, post-event, during training and conditioning or as part of the restoration and rehabilitation process. It is designed to increase endurance and performance, minimise the chances of injury and reduce the recovery time of existing injuries. |

Sports or Remedial Massage?
|
If you are a triathlete, you need a Remedial Massage during your taper periods and a Sports Massage pre/post event. These pre and post event Massages are lighter in nature, use longer strokes and are more geared around flushing the muscles and getting them prepped for the race (or are focussed on recovery!). Their aim is to cause minimal inflammation and soreness. Because most triathletes feel their worst whilst tapering, this is the time to get a good solid Remedial Massage, get out those trigger points and iron out any issues. Because a little bit of soreness can be experienced the next day, during taper this is completely acceptable.
If you are a gym bunny and strength work is your forte, you actually need a solid Remedial/Deep Tissue Massage every time because we need to work on your joint mobility and be conscious of your trigger points and getting them out successfully! Because trigger points inhibit muscular strength your priority is always to have a very precise targeted Massage. If you are body building and working towards body building/sculpting competitions, you will also need a solid Remedial/Deep Tissue Massage throughout your training program and then a blended Sports/Remedial session about 1.5 wks out of competition. The reason we need to start backing off so far in advance is that body fat gets very low, dehydration is very high and a strong massage in this time will not leave you in optimal position for comp day. |
